History, The Classics & Literature: Following the Saint Jerome Curriculum, we structure our studies by major historical eras. Upon graduating, Holy Child Eighth Graders will have already studied and discussed the infancy of man, prehistory, and the history of our earliest ancestors, allowing for a greater knowledge of the magnitude and importance of these civilizations.
Beginning in First and Second Grade, students meet great characters and authors (including Homer and Virgil), exploring the stories of Western Civilization.
Language & Communication: Students master Latin and spend years memorizing and reciting great poetry and speeches. We also use the IEW Writing Program to teach the structure and style of writing, note-taking, and source citation. We have a vibrant cursive culture where students value precision, neatness, accuracy and beauty in their writing.
Philosophy and Logical Thinking: We introduce students to Philosophic Studies and Socratic discussions. This trains students in the deep thinking and articulation needed for Euclidean proofs, which opens their Freshman Year at Chesterton. Our Singapore Math Curriculum places students one or two years ahead of their peers, giving each student the confidence needed to approach more complex areas of mathematics.
The Whole Child: We introduce students to the rudiments of drawing, hold great books dear, and cherish the outdoors and real-life human interactions—rejecting digital distractions in favor of human growth.
