While it is important to read the same translation together, it is also helpful to consult some other translations along the way as one translation is never enough!
Ignatius Press-This translation by Boulding is a favorite of teachers at the University of Dallas. Personally, we think the footnotes are the best part!

Anthony Esolen just did his own translation-so this is brand new

We will be using the John K. Ryan translation, however you may use whatever translation you already have. Some have had difficulty buying this version from Amazon, we have included a link to buy the book below from Christianbooks.com
In the Spring of 2024 we held an art contest within our community for pieces we could in our marketing materials for The Confessions. Winners received a gorgeous leatherbound volume of The Confessions translated by Anthony Esolen, PhD
We were so captivated with this painting because it shows the somber, learned gaze of the saint while he holds his flaming, restless heart at the same time. What a beautiful display of the integration between the head and the heart. His shepherd’s staff reminds us of the weighty task of the Bishop of Hippo who ended up being one of the four foundational Doctors of the Church in the West. In this painting, we can fully see, “Our hearts are restless until they rest in Thee.”
Mrs. Kelly Aldrich
What we loved about this depiction of Augustine is it shows clearly the Latin words the children sang, Tolle Lege, take and read, which were the very words that moved St. Augustine to take up his Bible and find “Put on the Lord Jesus Christ,” (Romans 13). This event is what gave him the grace to change his sinful habits and finally give his full yes to the Lord. (Note the garden which is a key theme in The Confessions.)
